Music reviews of Fever

Music Review: Give them more credit...
Rating: 5 Stars

Ever since BFMV came into the world of mainstream, they have become more and more popular among many metalcore and metal acts. Everyone love "The Poison" and how it could not have been a better debut with catchy choruses that stuck in your head through the whole entire day while "Scream,Aim,Fire" was high powered and full of speed and amazing guitar work on Matt and Padge's part. Now that they have been around for several years though, and "Fever" has come out, people believe mainstream success has gotten into their head, but I disagree. In my opinion, they stayed true to their roots featuring songs with amazing guitar playing like in the song "Alone" and drums that just sound freakin' amazing as well as lyrics and vocals that hold emotion that go to a deeper level than a normal may believe.

It has been said that BFMV did this album more for themselves than anything else, and in truth, I believe that as when you listen to some of the lyrics they become quite personal for Matt Tuck. Aside from that, people have complained about their not being as much screaming in this album as the other two or the same ferocity like the two previous ones. I will say yes to the first one, but no to the second. Yes, there is less screaming vocals on Jay and Matt's part, but does screaming really make the band? No it doesn't! The music style is what makes the band. The music! Not a type of vocals. It is just something that adds a different side of things or emotion. Now, the reason I say no to the second argument is that there are some heavy songs that show how awesome of a metalcore band they are. "Begging For Mercy", "Your Betrayal", and "Pretty on the Outside" are all songs that have amazing riffs, guitars, drums, the whole nine yards! Now the only reason why they may not have the same intensity as the other two is because they mean something more for the band than what so called "fans" can figure out.

Now, here is my recommendation. If you like BFMV because of their screaming and heavy metal sound, then don't get this album because you will complain about it and want your money back. If you like them for their musical talent and capabilities, showing different sides of the band, then definitely get this album. It is different, but a good kind of different. A lot of people are afraid to see different sides of a band, but in all honesty, you shouldn't be because it just means the band is experimenting with ideas that they like and want to see how they work out. This album is without a doubt a 5/5 for me, but hopefully this will help with your decision to buy it if your on the verge of doing so but are skeptical about it. Here is how I would grade the songs though:

1. Your Betrayal 10/10- An amazing opener for the album and the song as Moose does an amazing job on the drums, and the whispers and a somewhat creepy quality to the lyrics that works out wonderfully for them.

2. Fever 8/10- Even though the grade is an eight, the song is still catchy as the wordy just stick to your mind. No real complaints though. It just doesn't hit me as exciting as the first song, but it is still good.

3. The Last Fight 10/10- Reminds me a lot of "Scream,Aim,Fire" as it is fast, intense and has an amazing guitar solo by Padge.

4. A Place Where You Belong 10/10- I love the scream in the beginning of the song that starts it out, and from there, it just gets better and better.

5. Pleasure and Pain 10/10- Jay does an awesome job with his screaming in the beginning again, and this one has the intensity in the beginning like "The Last Fight" does. The chorus is something that will stick in your head as well. It will bring you only pleasure, I think.

6. Alone 11/10- Padge does the best job on his guitar with the opener of this song with notes flying that show you why they should be put on Guitar Hero more often! Anyway, the song is just a really emotional one as it has the heaviness of an awesome metalcore song with just insane parts for everyone.

7. Breaking Out, Breaking Down 10/10- Just another awesome song from them, and I think Matt's vocals have improved so much from when they first started...

8. Bittersweet Memories 10/10- More catchy choruses and more great vocals from Matt with Padge doing great work on the guitar with Jay's occasional screaming that finishes the formula.

9. Dignity 10/10- I love the speed this one has. It's another song that adds to the intensity of the song with kick ass solos from Padge once more.

10. Begging For Mercy 12/10- Without a doubt the most heavy song on the album and probably the most b.a. one. I love Jay's screaming in it. He does an awesome job that would not dissatisfy anyone.

11. Pretty on the Outside 11/10- My second favorite song on the album and a great closure. It continues the ferocity of "Begging For Mercy" with an amazing chorus that is really really catchy.

Hope this helps a few people. If not, sorry for wasting your time.
