Music reviews of ...Baby One More Time [ENHANCED CD]Music Review: One Of Her Best CDs Rating: 5 Stars
Britney was definitely at her best when she first began. Over the years, her music has gotten worse, especially with her last disc "In The Zone". However, if you want to hear some really good Britney music, get this disc. It is a great pop album with fun upbeat songs and also sweet slow romantic ballads. Here is a breakdown of the songs:
01. "Baby One More Time" ~ This song was such a huge hit, but it really isn't one of my favorites. It is a good love song, but it is not as great as some others or as it was made out to be. "My loneliness is killing me; I must confess I still believe; When I'm not with you, I lose my mind; Give me a sign; Hit me baby one more time". This song is very easy to get into since it is so upbeat, and she sounds great on it.
02. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" ~ I love this song! It is one of the best on the entire disc, and it is a great song about just being so in love that you go crazy. It is very upbeat and easy to get into. "Every time you look at me; My heart is jumpin', it's easy to see; Lovin' you means so much more; More than anything I ever felt before; You drive me crazy; I just can't sleep; I'm so excited, I'm in too deep; Ohh...crazy, but it feels all right; Baby, thinkin' of you keeps me up all night". This song is also so great because it is so easy to relate to.
03. "Sometimes" ~ This is another one of the best songs on the entire disc. It is not as fast and upbeat as the others, but it is still remarkable, and she sounds fantastic. It's about a guy who really loves this girl and wants to be with her, and she loves him, but she is afraid to make a commitment too soon. "You tell me you're in love with me; That you can't take your pretty eyes away from me; It's not that I don't want to stay, but everytime you come too close, I move away; I wanna believe in everything that you say cause it sounds so good, but if you really want me, move it slow; There's things about me you just have to know; Sometimes I run; Sometimes I hide; Sometimes I'm scared of you, but all I really want is to hold you tight; Treat you right, be with you day and night; Baby all I need is time". This is such a sweet song, and another song that I think a lot of people could really relate to.
04. "Soda Pop" ~ This is one of the stupidest songs on the entire disc. It is okay because it has a good beat, but if you really look at the lyrics, they don't make that much sense. "Open a soda pop; Watch it fizz and pop; The clock is tickin', and we can't stop; Open a soda pop; Bop-shi-bop-shi-bop; The clock is tickin', and we can't stop". She could definitely have done so much better and had a more creative, fun, and/or beautiful song.
05. "Born To Make You Happy" ~ One of my five absolute favorite songs of the entire disc. She sounds beautiful, and the song is both musically and lyrically beautiful. This is about a girl who is thinking about a relationship that ended that seemed so strong, and she can't figure out what went wrong. She wishes they were still together, and she doesn't know what to do because she loves him so much. "I'm sitting here alone up in my room and thinking about the times that we've been through (oh my love); I'm looking at a picture in my hand, trying my best to understand; I really want to know what we did wrong with a love that felt so strong; If only you were here tonight, I know that we could make it right; I don't know how to live without your love; I was born to make you happy cause you're the only one within my heart; I was born to make you happy; Always and forever you and me; That's the way our life should be; I don't know how to live without your love; I was born to make you happy". Once again, she has recorded a remarkably outstanding song that almost anyone who has experienced a break-up with the love of their life can relate to easily.
06. "From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart" ~ Another absolutely great song and one of my top five favorites. She sounds so beautiful, and the lyrics are very meaningful. It is about a girl who, after a break-up with a guy she really loved, is very sad and expresses how she feels to the guy. "'Never look back,' we said; How was I to know I'd miss you so?; Loneliness up ahead; Emptiness behind; Where do I go?; And you didn't hear all my joy through my tears; All my hopes through my fears; Did you know, still I miss you somehow; From the bottom of my broken heart, there's just a thing or two I'd like you to know; You were my first love; You were my true love; From the first kisses to the very last rose; From the bottom of my broken heart; Even though time may find me somebody new, you were my real love; I never knew love till there was you; From the bottom of my broken heart". I think people could also easily relate to this song after a break-up with their true love.
07. "I Will Be There" ~ Another fabulous song that she sounds great on. This is again another one of my top five favorites. This is the most inspirational song on this disc, and probably the most inspirational song she has ever recorded. It is about how this girl will be there for a friend whenever they have a problem and need someone. "You don't have to say what's on your mind cause I know where you've been; Give it up and leave it all behind, and then let me begin; Come on over here; Let me show how things should be; I will make it all right; Let me make it clear; You can put your trust in me; Yes, I will be there; When you need someone, you just turn around, and I will be there; When you're feeling low, baby, let me know, and I will be there". This is a very encouraging song to people going through problems because it shows that they have someone who will be there to help them.
08. "I Will Still Love You" ~ I love this song! I love that Britney and the guy sing alternating lines and then join together for the choruses. This is the last of my five absolute favorite songs from this disc. It is about a couple that promises to each other that even though they may not be together or close later on in life, they will still love each other. "Time may take us apart, but I will still love you; I promise; And when the stars, stars are falling, I'll keep calling; I promise that you'll be my one, my only everything; I'll never be untrue; And I promise back that for your love, I will do anything; I will give you the stars; I will buy you the moon; And even through the longest of our night; even through the darkest days, our love will find a way; And when your dreams are fading, I'll be waiting; I will still love you". This is such a beautiful song, and Britney should get back to singing more songs like this.
09. "Thinkin' About You" ~ This is another great love song on the disc, and it is probably the sixth best song. It is very upbeat, and it is really easy to get into. It's about a girl whose friends say she needs to break away from this guy and that they're spending too much time together, but she can't stop thinking about or being around him. "Friends say I'm away becuase I'm down with you every day; They say break away; I'm missing out on the fun and games, but you smile, and the words they tell me quickly disappear; You speak, and there's no other voice that I can hear; I spend my days with you; I spend my nights thinkin' about you; You stay on my mind, and I think about you all the time, day and night, feels so right, and for us, there is no end in sight". Anyone who has ever been truly and deeply in love knows what this feels like and can realte to it.
10. "E-Mail My Heart" ~ This song is easy to get into because of it's beat, and the lyrics make it pretty good but not the best. It is about a girl whose guy has been away for awhile, and she tries to get a hold of him and apologize for what she's done. "It's been hours, seems like days since you went away, and all I do is check the screen to see if you're okay; You don't answer when I phone; Guess you want to be left alone, so I'm sending you my heart, my soul, and this is what I'll say; I'm sorry, oh so sorry; Can't you give me one more chance to make it all up to you; E-mail my heart, and say our love will never die, and I, I know you're out there, and I know that you still care; E-mail me back and say our love will stay alive forever; E-mail my heart". Yet again, she did another song that is relatable. Anyone who has ever messed up and caused a break-up but wants to get the other person to listen, so they can apologize and get back together can relate.
11. "The Beat Goes On" ~ The absolute lowest point on the entire disc. I hate this song! She should have used this space to record a good and original song instead of remaking this Cher song, or she should have at least redone a good song. I really can't pay that much attention to all the words because the number of times the title is repeated is too annoying and distracting. "Drums keep pounding rhythm to the brain; La-dee-da-dee-dee; La-dee-da-dee-da; Love is the first thing, last thing on our minds; Run to love until the end of time; And the beat goes on; And the beat goes on; And the beat goes on; And the beat goes on; And the beat goes; And the beat goes; And the beat goes on". This song is so incredibly annoying. I am so glad that she eventually stopped remaking songs. If she does so in the future, she needs to pick a good song to do.
Overall, this disc is really great except "Soda Pop" and "The Beat Goes On". Most of the songs are very relatable, and there are so many great love songs and one inspirational song. She sounds fabulous on these songs. Britney really needs to get back to recording good wholesome songs like this instead of incredibly grotesque songs like "Breathe On Me" and "Touch Of My Hand" that she has done more recently. She sounds her best on the disc out of all others, so if you want a good Britney CD, get this one!!!

Description of ...Baby One More Time [ENHANCED CD]Features an alternate cover photo and a bonus song: Deep in My Heart! Debbie Gibson never recorded anything as sexy as Britney Spears's white-funk smoker "...Baby One More Time." Unfortunately, neither does the 17-year-old Spears's debut album contain anything else that remotely approaches that instant hit single. A few of the disc's cuts are pleasantly catchy, but too much of its space is given over to icky ballads ("E-Mail My Heart"?) and other unconvincing moves such as the dancehall-lite "Soda Pop." --Rickey Wright
