Music Review: Why did you have to go there Brian?

I was very upset to finally realize that Brian McKnight's hit single "Anytime" was not a completely original work. Although I love the lyrics, I was dissapointed to discover that the melody to "Anytime" was too similar to Me'Shell Ndegeocello's "Outside Your Door" to be mere coincidence. I give much props to a fellow reviewer who brought this oversight to my attention. When I heard "Anytime" for the first time, I thought I had heard it somewhere before. But I dismissed it upon checking the credits and finding that it was an "original" song. I used to love playing "Outside Your Door" over and over again because the melody was so soothing. I later found myself playing "Anytime" repeatedly because it had the same affect (not knowing that it was basically the same song-just different words). I must say that I have lost some respect for Mr. McKnight because of what he has done. I definately feel bamboozled, hoodwinked, and dooped by his latest album. He has been given a great musical gift and instead of using it, he has sold out in order to make more money. Until he returns to his roots and starts making real music again, I don't think I can support his work. Don't get me wrong, I have much love for his previous albums "I Remember You" and "Brian McKnight". I just can't respect unoriginality when someone has proven they are quite capable of being true to themselves.
