Music Review: A true artist unnoticed amongst the masses.

Zakk Wylde, former lead guitarist of Ozzy Osbourne, makes a move even farther afield of the traditional "Hard-rock" genre on his sophomore album. From the mournful solitude of "Too Numb to Cry" to the all or nothing committment of "Sold my Soul", the album maintains a consistent feel throughout, with the incredible talent and genius of Mr. Wylde the most striking theme. Book of Shadows is not an uplifting album; at best it could be called maudlin. There does not seem to be any playfulness in the lyrics, and the overall tone is very serious. In other words: HALLEIGHLUIA! Zakk Wylde is the first artist of the Metal genre to prove that he can be more than just a long-haired screaming fanatic out for attention. The lyrics are soulful and heartfelt, and while the music isn't as varied as on his first solo venture, Pride and Glory, this is still an incredible album, and a must have if you thirst to hear genuine, unenhanced talent THAT NEEDS NO ENHANCEMENT.
