Music Review: A wonderful surprise

Precisely who is responsible for the music, however, is irrelevant, as it is simply such a wonderful disc to listen to. Turner plays in his usual warm, rambling style and it seems to suit Oldham well: he relaxes into the singing - at times sounding as if he is improvising the melodies - rather than overplaying his role, and this allows the beautiful poetry of the words to be fully grasped by the listener. This does not mean, however, that Oldham sings sloppilly: he seems to be savouring every word, and with Turner filling in the gaps in an equally poetic manner the whole disc, although laid back, is tighter and put together with more care than it seems. The words, meanwhile, are probably the happiest Oldham has ever sung (with lyrics such as "things will be finer in the morning" and "I found a joy of my own"). The end result is that this is beautiful, relaxing music to listen to. The C.D. is barely more than twenty minutes long, but put it on anyway, even if you think you don't have that much time - for twenty minutes, you'll feel as if the world is a much better place.
