Hello,I bought the "Shine" cd the week it was released. It is now 2 weeks after its release, and after several listens, these are my opinions on the CD... I try to give a non biased view of each track saying my opinion on its strong, and weak points. 1. Allegretto - This was originally written by Karl Jenkins as part of his Concerto Grosso "Palladio." Personally one of my favorite pieces to play. The track by bond, which opens their CD is the music to a dance beat. To me, its an ok track if you only want something to bob your head along with. Id give it a 4 2. Shine - The title track for the CD. Very melodic opening to the track, with a catchy tune. It's a great track, with very full string parts, all the girls do a great job with this track. I like the international flavor of the track, and the very kewl voice of the guy in the song (which by the way for any DDR fans out there, is the same voice from the song "Afronova") I give it an 8 3. Fuego - Bond performed this track on the Wayne Brady show...this track, is one of my favorites on the CD, I personally thought this should've been the cd title, and this its first single.(but they didn't ask me). Its really a great track. I give it a 9 4. Strange Paradise - Yes, very strange indeed. It starts out with an eerie sorta vibe, then you hear the lower strings play a tune, which begins the track. It's a nice lil dance beat to, not overly poppy, just right for the track. Unfortunately the track in my opinion goes nowhere, its really nice, but there are no high points. I give it a 5 5. Speed - Definitely one of my favorite tracks. Upbeat great tune, nice bass line as well. Every part is very creative, and very important; it would be nice to hear an acoustic version of this track. I give it an 8 6. Big Love Adagio - Albinioni's famous Adagio, one very beautiful piece of music. It opens with a music box sounding instrument playing the tune with the girls chording with it, for the first part of the track THEY ACCOMPANY other instruments, and eventually...violin has the tune. One of the GREAT parts about this track is how the arpeggios are setup. They seem to be done in a same manner as the arpeggios from Oceanic on their first CD "Born" I really love this track. I give it a 10 7. Kashmir - Can we say Jimmy Page? Well apparently the girls could say it. I'm sure gay-yee was pleased to have such a powerful part on this track. Other than the bass line, there is nothing (in my opinion) remotely interesting about the track. Haylie, just rambles on notes making it sound in a way kinda soupy soppy improvisation. It's boring to me, and it's a track I can't listen to for a long time. I give it a 2 8. Gypsy Rhapsody - GREAT COMEBACK FROM THE PREVIOUS TRACK, after the heaviness of the previous track. It's a nice lil pop track with a great tune. Its got many layers that make it interesting, and the harmonies make it all the better. I give it a 8.5 9. Libertango - ROCK ON PIAZZOLA!!! The girls did a great job with this track, and this one is truly a favorite for me on the CD. Its got attitude, I can picture it being played with such emotional involvement I really like what Eos plays as Haylie solos, its really intricate. And the way each girl takes a part with a theme, and it bounces back and forth so they all get a chance to "Shine" makes it even better. I rate it a 10 10. Sahara - I'm still confused on what to think of this track. It does in a way remind me of someone walking through the Sahara. On different days, I feel different ways about this track. So my rating would vary per day. Its still a decent track though. 11. Ride - I love this track, it really takes you on a ride, in a sports car going about 120 in a 35 zone. You gotta love Eos for this track, she should write more for the CDs. This track doesn't have much to it, but it's a great techno/instrumental pop kinda track, it really gets you movin, and the voices of the woman telling you what to do in the background make it even more interesting. (ride, love, live, and give it!) I rate it 10 easily 12. Space - Just when I thought the CD was recovering from the mistake of Kashmir, they throw this very confusing war time sounding track on here. Its VERY heavy as in comparison to the rest of the tracks, and in a way doesn't really fit. The theme is very beautiful, and I can picture it being played on a movie about space, but it just doesn't fit the rest of the CD to me. I still like it though, and I give it a 6 13. Bond on Bond - Even though I think the track title is generic, ya gotta love the JAMES BOND THEME. For any of you that have the Bond DVD, it's the same thing, with maybe a little more clarity. I really like Haylies lil line that she does, sounds kinda jazzy, I kept playing it over so I could learn it by ear. Great track, and great take on this ol bond theme. I give it a 10. Its really a great way to end the CD. Overall the CD is nice, it takes a few plays before it grows on you. I think its more techno/popish than born (maybe a lil more commercial sounding too). I personally don't see any reason for there to be any controversy as to where to place this CD...its pop (of course MANY of you will disagree with me, but its how I think)
