Music Review: Leaves you wanting more....

Highly recommend this disc - yes - it's too short. It doesn't cover the early Seger that the cover says it does and is missing too many songs to list. That's the negatives. Now the positives; Seger Rocks! This disc has been totally remastered and as in the case of Long Song Comin' rerecorded. Here's the tracks: 1)Midnight Rider - this song has taken waaaay too long to see the light of day (as has it's parent album Back in 72). It's all cleaned up and has a great sound to it - Seger left off the last little vocal from the album - you know the dadadada da daaa. Either way it sounds great. 2) If I Were A Carpenter - I can't tell if this is just lifted off of the recently remastered Smokin' O.P.'s or not - the song itself is killer. Seger rocks the heck out of this song. I have to wonder why any tracks from a recently released CD are on here but...3) Get Out Of Denver - another Seger nugget. Beautiful sound quality. Play it loud. 4) Someday - one of my all time favorite songs by Bob. Wish he would play it on the next tour. 5) U.M.C. - great song - great sound. 6) Long Song Comin' - this is rerecorded - at least Seger's vocals are and they sound great. It's easy to close your eyes and picture it happening on stage. I've always wanted Bob to play some of these lesser known songs in concert. His delay in making it big time had more to do with accessibility then talent. These songs should get played. Now we get to the good part: Unreleased Seger - FINALLY! 7) Star Tonight - should've been on Like A Rock (My least favorite Seger album). Don Johnson recorded this for his first album and it's missing one major thing - Seger! I love the guitar in the middle. 8) Gets Ya Pumpin' - this was a staple of Seger's live show in the early days and was intended for the Night Moves album. You can see how it would've fit right in. 9) Wildfire - Seger finally finds a spot for this track that for some incredibly crazy thought processes was left off of Like A Rock. Why? Widely circulated as a bootleg it is finally nice to hear this track all cleaned up and I cannot wait to hear it live. 10) Days When The Rain Would Come - also for Like A Rock. Now I've said it alredy, LAR was my least favorite release of Seger's. Can you imagine how great it could have been? The fact that Tightrope is on it and this song is not is incredibly hard to fathom.
This disc is way too short and never should've been called Early Seger because it is very misleading but...you won't be disapointed. The price is great too. Pick this up and know that a second version - maybe not going to be named vol 2 is on the way. Bob - PLEASE just give us a box set already. We've waited long enough...
