One would think that Blitzkid releasing an album of re-recordings after only being in existence for ten years would seem silly when we could have a new album instead. Well, then you must not have heard Anatomy of Re-Animation yet because this album rocks. It is, without a doubt, an album made for the already established fan. However, it is a great place to start for new ones too. While I still love the original versions for their low-fi "classic" sound, I can't help but enjoy the new oohs and ahhs added to songs like Hellraiser and A Hopeless Night. Or the abrasive punk shouts in Pumpkin Patch Murders, or the sitar in As The Rope Bridge Sways, etc. I could go on and on. It's nice to have Return to the Living on cd too. The production values are terrific, just as they were on 5 cellars below. Pauly Lifeless' drumming is dead-on. Goolsby's bass is thick and audible and he embellishes his notes more than the average punk, so don't expect boring musicianship. The vocals are just jaw dropping. TB and Gools really upped the harmonies and everything sounds so much more "throaty". If you are a fan at all of this band then you must get this, especially for the gore-soaked artwork! I personally own the originals these songs came from (Terrifying Tales, Let Flowers Die, & Trace of a Stranger) and I must say you should get both because they are very different. Also, expect volume two because they have many more great songs that have yet to be re-recorded. I know after talking with Goolsby & TB in Tampa a few years ago they were really excited to be doing the re-recordings and I'm happy to get to finally hear how good it is. Let it be known, that Blitzkid is THE Misfits of the new generation. Hands down. They have taken the genre of horror punk to the next level and even members of the Misfits know it too, that's why Goolsby is playing in bands with Doyle and Dr. Chud.
This band deserves attention and will continue to grow. Can't wait. Fantastic collection, so get this album.
