Music Review: MOST UNDERRATED ALBUM FROM THE 80'S

If you like eighties music or have an open enough mind, this album is a must buy. I've always liked the Cars quite a bit, and when I saw this album at a used record store for $1 it was a no brainer to pick it up. Being that i bought it so cheap, i was also in no dire rush to listen to it. However, one nigh while cooking dinner a few months later, i threw side one on the turn table, and to my suprise, Benjamin Orr tickled my ear drums; and that was just the first listen. On the second take, my mood improved even more as every song made an impact. "Skyline" immediately became my favorite even though it dawned on me that "Stay the Night" was a long forgotten hit from the eighties--you know....the kind of hit that doesn't get played anywhere anymore(unless maybe xm radio). I love those kind of tunes(see "Family Man" by Hall and Oates). All the songs on side one seemed like they should've been hits. The melodies are complex and unique and the instrumentation is balls-out eighties at its best.
After several more listens, i gave side 2 a try figuring it wouldn't match up to the first, but i was dead wrong...more great tunes. "Hold On" is another very beautifully melodic song like "Skyline". "That's the Way", on the other hand, comes at you like a bullet with driving guitar and synthesizers. I'm not a huge fan of the last track, "Spinning", but if you ask my good friend Mullet(who i burned this for soon after), he'd disagree. It's his favorite.
There are so many great tunes on THE LACE, it makes you wonder why Rik Ocasek took over the reigns so much towards the latter years of the Cars. In fact, I've never enjoyed a Cars album or a solo Ocasek album as much as this. Maybe it's because i was just a young lad(born in '73) and wasn't at the maximum absorption age for the early Cars albums when they came out. I don't really know, but i also don't care. I just want to thank Ben Orr for kicking so much ass.

In honor of The Cars reunion tour, we proudly bring back two long out of print solo albums by original Cars members. The Lace by Benjamin Orr was originally issued in 1986 on Elektra Records. It features a guest appearance by fellow Cars member Elliot Easton. Speaking of Elliot Easton, we are also releasing his long out of print 1985 solo CD Change No Change. This CD features five bonus tracks not on the original vinyl release. It features a guest appearance by Jules Shear.
