Music reviews of Demigod

Music Review: "Awesome CD From Behemoth... A+ !"
Rating: 5 Stars

This ablum kinda of took me by suprised, at first being as heavy as it is. Though it grown on me rather quickly and I could see the musical genius in the ablum. Their music can be desribed as the twin brother of Nile, since they both sound similar (both using theatrical/epic elments, and blending in into some brutal death metal.), and not to mention similar music themes like ancient mythology. So, in general if you like Nile, you will most defintely enjoy this. Only true death metal fans, will fully appreciate this piece of work, while others not familar to death metal will only be left baffled and plainly confused, and possibly in a state of shock...by the sheer heaviness and darkness of the music. Behemoth's furry will shake the earth around you.

"Demigod" overall is a very solid ablum never faltering once. The vocals are brutal beyond belief and unrelenting. The guitar work, whether it's from unleashing earth shaking power chords, riffs, or leading a swift percise assault. The guitar work is plainly multi dimensional (also even using some austoic elments to open and close certain songs) and sensational. The drummer is also very talented as well, unleashing rampaging power blasts as well as taking songs to new heights. The double bass throughout the entire ablum was great with the drums keeping a nice rythm and in supporting guitar leads or tempo changes and such.

The band in general did a great job taking each part of the ablum and making it different. The ablum is kind of like 1 long song, broken down into different segments. Each song is like a chapter coming from an epic book beginning with "Sculpting the Throne Ov Seth", which was most defintely the best choice for the beginning of the ablum. The songs starts off on a mellow note with aucostic guitar, then opening up with Nile like epic riffs on the eletric guitar(s). The atmosphere was awesome, and the song was pretty cool too. Behemoth has more of a blackened death metal band, mixing elments of death metal (similar to Nile, Decide, and Vader) while mixing it all up with a black metal like atmosphere. Well, it makes sense since Behemoth was originally a black metal band.

Next, comes the title track called "Demigod", which was an plainly awesome song. It starts off with epic trumpets, siginaling the "awakening of the Demigod of course", as the earth shaking riffs come from the abyss. Everything on this track is amazing, especially the brutal vocals and the solid/layered drumming, filled with tons of variety. The song in general is both heavy and epic.

Afterwards, we move on to the totally xtreme "Conquer All" in which the title of the track says it all, and as well as keeping the same atmosphere of the ablum. This song is very heavy, one of the best on the ablum. The guitar style is the same with that same epic (ancient egyptian sound). The song right away takes off with brutal power chords and riffs, with an awesome mix of drumming and doule bass. The vocals for this song are perfect for this song. This tune is what probably originally got me into the band, being unique with a catchy chorus, yet keeping the heaviness and atmosphere at the same time.

Furthermore, the next track to unleas it's wrath is "The Nephilim Rising", taking off where "Conquer All" left off in other words. At this point the ablum progresses and changes the tempo a bit. This time around the guitar takes a new pitch, staying strong and steady while venturing out when needed; with pitch harmonics, mini solos, and some aucostic elments added to end the song. Following comes..."Towards Babylon" if anyone bothers keeping up with the story of the ablum; kind of represents a march of massive, bloody battle with phrases such as "as we massacre", and all that jazz. This is very brutal, with a great atmosphere something like Nile would do. I love the vocals and guitar parts throughout the chorus, which is flippin' sweet.

Next, comes "before the Aeons" which is truly the most unique song on the ablum with neat tempo changes. It starts off with a short instrumental piece, then the tempo changes to a death/speed attack, with thw guitars coming in at mach speed(not that fast, but pretty reasonable speed if you ask me) and the drum/double bass come in amazingly, with Lergal's (wierd name I know) demonic vocals, evil sounding, high pitched shrieks of terror. The breakdown and tempo changes in the song are sweet, and truly make this song special as it ends on a slower yet very heavy note.

"Mytsterium Coniunction (Hermanubis)", starts off dark and mellower setting an erie essence as the guitar work gets progressively heavier, along with the drum blasts and of chorus with Lergel's brutal vocals yet melodic vocals. This song is more melodic than all the others, and is plainly fun to listen too, with quite a catchy tune to the song in general.

Then come two songs similar to "Conquer All" and "Demigod" one called "XUL" and the other called "Slaves Shall Serve", whichare both remarkable, and very heavy, with the awesomevocal and guitar arrangements. They also have awesome chorus with neat catch phrase (for example the chanting of "Slave Shall Serve")along with neat melodies and other cool tricks. On a personal note "Slave's Shall Serve" kind of reminds me of Nile's "Lashed To The Slavestick". These two tracks are very strong and perfect for headbanging to and sets you up for the epic conclusion of the ablum helping fullfill your listening experience. Both songs are plainly heavy, melodic, and unique from the rest of the ablum,...both perfect for a death metal fan.

The ablum ends with the nice long and epic "The Regin Ov Shemdu-Hor". The song starts off instrumentaly while it breaks down into a long death metal power ballad, that reminds me of two Nile songs that instanly pop into my head them being "Ramses The Bringer of War" and "Annihilation of The Wicked", being both theatrical(epic), and nice long, heavy, yet melodic with great instrumental work.

Overall, Behemoth is a great, very talanted band,...not as great as Polish comrade Vader or counterparts such as Nile or Decide, but they really pack a punch especially with this ablum. This ablum still has me wondering "Are all Polish people as pissed off a Vader and Behemoth lol" that would be kind of scary if found true. Just kidding..!

The ablum deserves a 4.5/5 which is rounded to 5/5 by amazon.com standards.
