Music Review: Contender for "the Best"

There is no such thing as "the best" recording of Beethoven symphonies. However, this is one of the best recordings of Beethoven's Fifth I have heard. The strings have a unified "voice." The changes in dynamics create a sense of life as the dynamics fluctuate from quiet to power to elegance and beauty. I believe that Vanska's strategy was to study Beethoven's manuscripts carefully and follow the master. It received rave reviews, including a rare designation from Gramophon as a very special recording. This stands among the top Beethoven's Fifth recordings. Highest recommendation!

This is the best recording of Beethovan's Fifth Symphony I have heard. Nothing is hohum about it. It made me weep, it made me laugh for joy and kept me on the edge of me seat. For a piece of music I know this well to be that exciting was a thrill. I going to use my very bland, very safe Philadelphia Orchestra version for a Frisbee or dangle it from my rear view mirror. Those who question whether another Fifth was necessary haven't heard this one. It's as new and fresh as the day Ludwig premiered it.Music Review: Too many good versions of these two Symphonies to mess with

I just really want to talk about the sound quality of this recording. I have an excellent car cd deck and this sounds super dull without the crisp highs like I always like to hear. I also like to hear the fourth played at more spacious speeds (like Christopher Hogwood does) than this particular recording. Maybe if I had one of those Super Audio cd decks this could be much better sounding but I doubt it. I think I might be done with Mr.Vanska.Music Review: Dynamic Beethoven
