Music Review: A semi-sequel to "A Star Is Born"--- 3 stars, you have my word!

This is virtually a semi-sequel to "A Star IS Born". It came out in mid 1977 on record, which was still when "A Star is Born" was in some theaters and that brilliant album was still selling. This good have been a great sequel album, but I'll tell you why it doesn't hit the mark of it predecessor: Gary Klein's production is extremely below average. "Answer Me", for example, which was written for A Star is Born, is a pure example that we were not getting a Phil Ramone production like on ASIB, the genius who produced that album. Even a song like "Don't Believe What You Read", which was co-writing by Streisand, is disappointing. Even though this was not made for the ASIB, it would have been good for the film under Phil Ramone and Ian-Freebairn Smith, who arranged "Evergreen". That was just a thought of mine if it was written before this "Superman" album. Overall, including these songs, the whole album is virtually fillers, except for two songs, which all appear on Greatest Hits II from Barbra. The title track, "Superman" and the hit "My Heart Belongs To Me". The "Superman" tune has a special glow, while "My Heart Belongs to Me" reaches us back to a great ballad from Streisand, thanks for the arrangment by Charlie Calello. These two songs add to the two of the three stars I gave it. The third star is for the cover of her in the Superman shirt. It tells us if you liked A Star Is Born, buy "this", even though it doesn't come close. (Remember, Barbra was wearing this shirt in ASIB when her and Kris started their honeymoon on the desert.) Even though the cover is not a good as ASIB, it is still great marketing. That is from the brilliant promotion skills by Jon Peters. Actually, the jacket of the record even mentions the "Oreos" from ASIB, Clydie King and Venetta Fields, doing background vocals. This jacket miniature is not on the CD. I'm sure this album was much less expensive to produce, but there was still a market for it. Again, that was from the skills of Mr. Jon Peters, who is so underrated by many. Thanks for reading.
