This is Hendricks' second spirituals-CD.The first one,'Negro Spirituals',is from 1983 and had her sing with piano accompaniment.(I own it too and highly recommend it!) Here she is backed by a choir,the Moses Hogan Singers.There are no other instruments,just the choir-sounds great! The CD is a mixture of slow,gentle songs and uptempo songs that will get your feet tapping along.The uptempo songs are my favorites.The CD has a great sound,Hendricks' voice sounds powerful and beautiful,and the choir sounds rather quiet,mixed into the background.What I am not so crazy about is the four songs that Hendricks sings completely unaccompanied,which sounds boring compared to the other tracks.Overall,this music has healing power-it can definitely comfort me when I'm sad.
