Music Review: Worthy purchase

I really wish someone would re-master this album. The songwriting, lyrics and vocals are superb, but the overall feel of the album is lacking "crispness" and some of the guitars tend to bury or choke out the vocals. Because of this, I'm giving the album 4 stars instead of 5.
I wrote a huge review of this album when it was released, but I'm editing it now. Balligomingo has been a staple of mine for years, and I had so much I wanted to say regarding this album. I was simultaneously thrilled and disappointed: The songs are beautiful but they are such a departure from the stunning debut album and they could use some additional (re)mastering. However, the overall effect is great, and this album was a slow burner. I'm a huge fan now that I realized the direction Balligomingo is taking. I finally "get" it.
My favorite track is still "Spinning," a beautiful opener. Lyrically it twists and turns through the uncertainty of a relationship, and the vocals are entrancing. Also a huge fan of both the original and the remix of "Beautiful Day," "You're a Star," and "Sunshine in Rain" (all featuring Jody Quine) and Rebecca Ramone's "Goodbye" and "I Just Tell Myself" - the latter of which might be one of the most perfectly-written pop songs ever. It sounded bland and uninviting at first - nothing unusual about it - but frequent listens revealed just how perfect of a song it is.
Completely random: I love that several lines are repeated in two or more songs. This gives the album a cohesive feel rather than a lot of the other recent albums in this genre.
I'm still not sure about a few of the tracks. The title track sounds a little strange, and the first minute or so of "La Bonita" is a bit too free-form (but that song redeems itself towards the end with the spontaneous lyrics). "Dream Believer" has yet to do anything for me, and the "Oh my lord" line in "Over You" is too cheesy for Balligomingo, which otherwise features some of the most beautiful lyrics ever written.
Well worth a listen.
