Music Reviews of Back to Titanic

Music Review: Excellent Recopulation of James Horners' music
Rating: 5 Stars

I was surprised at the excellent quality of this second soundtrack. Mr. Horner has done an exquisite job of reproducing some of the music from Titanic as well as adding a gorgeous mix of various pieces in the first soundtrack released (the first piece, 'Titanic Suite' is an excellent example of this). Kudos go to Gaelic Storm for the Irish party music, shame there wasn't another piece by them. The two versions of Nearer my God to Thee as well as the reworked "Come Josephine in My Flying Machine" remind and haunt us with tragic lyricism. All in all, a must have!

Music Review: Is this trip really necessary?
Rating: 2 Stars

First comes the sinking of the ship, now this flotsam and jetsam. A disappointing rehash of all that has come before. STILL no liner notes about the music or its composition, and a silly redux of the Celine Dion song with some of the movie's more inane dialouge cobbled in. The compilation suites are enjoyable, and the Irish music interesting--there's nothing wrong with any of the performances, just a general sense of been there, done that. (And my GOD! Even the poor passengers on the ill-fated liner only had to listen to "Nearer My God to Thee" once!)

Music Review: An All-Time Favourite Sequel To The Original CD!!!
Rating: 5 Stars

James Horner has done it again with this charged up sequel to the first album! It contains music which were not available previously in the first CD. Recommended tracks are : 1.) Titanic Suite(A some sort remixed version of the original) 5.) Jack Dawson's Luck(A very upbeat tune) my personal favourite..6.) A Building Panic(The best track in the CD) and 13.) Epilogue-The Deep and Timeless Sea.

A great CD on the overall. A worthwhile buy. A "bloody-marvelous" treat on this album! Calling all Titanic fans, this is one HOT CD not to be missed! Ten thumbs up!

Music Review: More interesting than original soundtrack
Rating: 5 Stars

This Cd gives the listener two things the original soundtrack did not: the sheer size and power of a full symphony orchestra (London Symphony) and variety of musical styles. While James Horner is a highly effective composer of movie scores, an entire CD of nothing but his themes becomes boring and repetitious. Try listening to Braveheart or Glory, straight through. I usually select only a few tracks. This second Titanic cd, by including incidental music from the movie, gives the listener plenty of variety and is fun play. Of course, I still skip some tracks.

Music Review: An excellent addition to first release.
Rating: 4 Stars

As great as the original soundtrack release of Titanic was, it still felt more than a bit skimpy in its use of music from the film. This release offers far more than just memorable bits and pieces from Horner's excellent (albeit manipulative) score. The only downside is the use of dialogue tracks from the film. Rather than help the listener recall the movie clearly, they instead distract from the impressive instrument play. Despite that small quibble the disc is pretty much a must have for admirers of both James Horner and/or the movie itself. High recommended.
