Music Review: Creative tensions makes this a cool album

I remember how disappointed the hardcore fans were when this came out. (I was a nutty fan of the B-52's like you can only be when you are young.)
David Byrne has his fingerprints all over this album -- and that was a mistake. The B-52's have always had a clear vision of who they are, so they need a producer who pushes them to be better -- not different. (Wikipedia tells this story, if you care.)
But creative tensions sometimes make fresh music -- and this album pushed the B-52's out of their comfort zone. The single "Mesopotamia" is brilliant but the rest of disc has its moments.
Definitely consider this album if you like the B-52's' standards but are open to something a little different.
But of you mostly just like "Rock Lobster" and "Love Shack," then buy one of their best-of albums.
