Music Review: over-rated

Being a Persian music enthusiast, who has listened to almost all traditional and contemporary Persian music, I must say that Axiom of Choice's second CD did not meet my expectations at all. The group seems to have a good potential in terms of diversity and knowledge of traditional and modern/world music, but they have failed to select contemporary and yet authentic songs/poems (such as Moshiri's who is a contemporary but more of a traditional poet) to meet the quality of their music. Additionally, Mamak Khadem's voice needs MUCH practice (not nearly comparable to Sheila Chandra's!) , especially when she attempts to hit high notes or do complex TAHREERS and goes off tune, if you listen to Parissa who is one of the most renowned female traditional vocalists in Iran, you will know what I mean. Being original and eclectic is one thing, but being apt and music-conscious is another; they are both necessary elements in delivering beautiful art. unfortunately this new age Iranian ensemble fails to lure the more avid listeners into appreciating their CDs. However, there are a few tracks with intriguig music composed by Torkian. Hence, they are over-rated by their non-Iranian audience!
