Music Review: One of my favorite albums

This band has taken several tunes, some of their own, some remakes, and infused them with an energy that is almost hypnotic. This album simultaneously captures the front row excitement of a live show with the sound of a worked over recording. This is a band that uses no fancy tricks. They are actually this good.

Listen to Christina Marrs' powerful, lusty vocals on "Coffee Grindin Blues", Kevin Smith's amazing slap bass solo on "Deep Ellum Blues", Wammo's hilarious lyrics on "Children of the Cornuts", Guy Forsyth's killer guitar and preacher's voice on "Walking Blues", and the entire band's jump up and shout rendition of the classic, "Mama Don't Allow...", a song which allows them all to show off, one at a time. Thank God.

I really can't put into words the absolute joy of listening to artists this talented performing, knowing you are hearing them completely raw and unenhanced, and still being bowled over by their power. I know I make this album sound to good to be true, but it very nearly is.

If you want a swingin', rocking, bluegrass/jazz/dixieland/country/blues and more album to restore your faith in modern musicians, look no further than the Spankers. In the era of high paid, low talent "music", this band is a breath of fresh air.
