Music Reviews of Assassins (2004 Broadway Revival Cast)

Music Review: Wow. Wow! WOW!
Rating: 5 Stars

This is an amazing cast. I saw Assassins about 5 months ago at a local theatre. I absolutley loved it! Then 5 months later, saved up some Christmas and birthday money. My mom took me to Barnes and Noble, and I went to the music section. I found Assassins, the 2004 Broadway cast, and fell in love with it. Michael Cerveis is just amazing, along with the outstanding Neil Patrick Harris as the country boy Balladeer. And you gotta love Mario Cantone. His "Have It Your Way" speech was very well done, and he did his character just right. HIGHLY RECOMENDED

Music Review: Superb recording
Rating: 5 Stars

I never saw the original production but did have the recording, which to me seemed to have very low recording levels and all the words were difficult to hear. The other reviewers discussed the merits of the show and I agree with them. This is a superb recording and you hear every single word, which helps to understand this quirky and somewhat difficult show.

Music Review: A Good Record of a Great Production
Rating: 4 Stars

The original cast sang better, no question about it. However, there is much to like here, including some of the included "scenes," especially Cantone's monologue. The sound quality is also superior to the original, and here you'll find the only recording of "Something Just Broke," which was added to the score after its initial production.

Music Review: Good but lacking crucial parts
Rating: 4 Stars

Well I was really looking forward to this recording because it has "SOMETHING JUST BROKE," unfortunately they left out major parts of the dialogue of the Lee Harvey Oswald scene. That was a real disappointment. Neil Patrick Harris was very good in the show and in the recording as well.

Music Review: Assassins' Strengths Preserverd
Rating: 4 Stars

Again a Stephen Sondheim show is recorded and thank goodness. On stage the show was felled by a weak book and weaker direction but the music still sored. It certainly is not the catchiest of Sondheim's scores, but it is a serious and important work. A great cast in great voice.
