Music Review: Spectacular recording, spectacular price

To hear this recording of the Corelli concerti for the first time is eye opening. The clarity is unsurpassed by any orchestral recording I have ever heard. I have had the experience several times, of putting this (or its companion disc II) on with people visiting, and soon the conversation ends, and they say, "what IS that you just put on?" The other reviewer says at times it is "mannered". Corelli is said to have insisted that all players bow their parts in unison, so I think for it to sound "mannered" is what he was seeking. There are places on this disc where you would consider that perhaps this is a contemporary "fusion" piece rather than something written 300 years ago. This orchestra also does a spectacular job with The Messiah and Water Music and M's Horn Concerti. At this price, these discs should be in everyone's collection
