Music Review: Is this really complete?

This is not a review, but a query as to the claim of being the complete music written for the ballet.

Many, many years ago I had what was claimed to be a recording of all the music written for the ballet. This set was 5 LPs. Classical LPs of a long work, at the time, would have contained at least 45-50 minutes of music. Note that it claimed to be all the music written for the ballet, but that did not imply there was ever a production that made use of such a lengthy amount of music.

As it was so long ago, I can't recall whether this LP set presented so much music as being for a possible very long ballet, or whether it included addenda of possible variants. Either way, 2 CDs cannot contain all of the music Khachaturian wrote for this ballet. Productions of the ballet can vary significantly in length, so it is obvious that choreographers draw on the amount of available music they require for their concept of the ballet.

So, with the variation in length of different productions, and the existence so long ago of that recording (if memory serves me correctly, it was on the Philips label), can anyone define just what is a "complete" recording? If a performance approach is taken, a complete recording would be that of the longest professional production ever presented, and I would have no idea what that may be. Perhaps a scholar specialising in the music of the composer might shed light on this confusing issue.
