Music reviews of Inquisition Symphony

Music Review: Metal Symphony
Rating: 5 Stars

Wow. Words can not express the beauty, musical talent, crystal clear audio, perfection and technique that flows through the air as this is played. For those not familiar with Apocalyptica, they are a four man Finnish group that earned their reputation by playing metal songs (mainly Metallica) on four cellos. While their first album was strictly Metallica songs, Inquisition Symphony covers 4 more Metallica Songs, 2 Sepultura Songs, 1 Pantera song and a Faith No more Song and 3 Apocalyptica Originals.

Apocalyptica takes the original songs, throws in their own unique ideas, almost making the cellos speaking the lyrics to the songs. Apocalyptica proves that Metal doesn't strictly belong to guitars, bass, and drums. You will find yourself headbanging to their cellos with only a few listens. Here's a basic breakdown of the album.

1. Harmageddon (Apocalyptica Original) 10/10: this song is extremely layered and surprisingly heavy, perfect.
2. From out of Nowhere (Faith No More) 9/10: the original was a strange song, so this seems a bit random for them to cover, but it's an excellent job.
3. For Whom the Bell Tolls (Metallica) 9/10: surprisingly short, it's extremely well done.
4. Nothing Else Matters (Metallica): 9/10 Beautiful, just perfection at it's finest.
5. Refuse/Resist (Sepultura): 10/10 Oh my God...The way they mimic Max Cavelera's Vocals is amazing. You'll want to mosh and headbang to this thing.
6. M.B. (Apocalyptica Original) 8/10: not sure what M.B. means but this is certainly a cool song, not as good as Harmageddon by a long shot though.
7. Inquisition Symphony (Sepultura) 10/10: a shortened version of the 7 minute instrumental, perfection makes its third appearance on the album.
8. Fade to Black (Metallica) 10/10: once it gets to the last half, you know you have entered a zone of eternal bliss.
9. Domination (Pantera) 9/10: awesome song, the heavy ending is the highlight.
10. Toreador (Apocalyptica Original) 8/10: similar to M.B., the strange beginning throws me off, but halfway in you strike Gold.
11. One (Metallica) 10/10: Look at what I said for Nothing Else Matters and then double that. The original makes my hair stand on end every time I hear it. This succeeds in doing that as well but taken to a whole new level.

Well if you haven't been convinved by now then you got to listen to a few of the songs. If that still doesn't convince you, then theres something wrong with you. I've heard a lot of Metallica String Tributes, and they always fall flat and appear stale in comparison to Apocalyptica's. There isn't a String tribute to Sepultura (one of my favorite metal bands) and I doubt there ever will be but if you're interested in just hearing what these two will sound like, you must get a copy of this immediately. Even if you are not a metal fan, after hearing these versions, you may find yourself hunting down the metallica, faith no more, Sepultura and Pantera records to see what they sound like. This is review number 55 with an average of 5 star rating. Don't just trust me, trust us. 5 stars is something that is VERY difficult to do. Hoped this review helped and hope you enjoy Apocalyptica, you'll become hooked.
