For the May 2009 complete cycle of Mahler symphonies performed at Carnegie Hall, Daniel Barenboim and Pierre Boulez were invited to conduct. But it was Leonard Bernstein who famously first rescued Mahler's majestic symphonies from cult status and lifted them into the classical mainstream.
