Music Review: Excellent overview of early Ani

I bought this CD to get an overview of Ani's early work, instead of buying "Ani DiFranco" and "Not So Soft" separately. If you already have Ani DiFranco and/ or Not So Soft, this album would basically be superfluous. That being said, I think this is a lovely album. You get early recordings of songs that remain live concert favorites ("Anticipate," "Both Hands," "Fire Door") but also some gems that have long been out of the concert rotation ("Rockabye," "Work Your Way Out," "Rush Hour"). Plus there's two short spoken word pieces: "Not So Soft" and "The Slant." Need I say more? "Like I Said" is a beautiful melding of poetry and music. Ani fans should check it out.
