Music reviews of Puccini - La BohèmeMusic Review: Shelves in them: Recordings that deserve to be mocking the shelf Rating: 1 Stars
Andrea Bocelli has done a one hundred recordings of love songs, folk and excerpts from famous operas. Your exacerbated romanticism and their music easy to whistle fell on the taste of audiences worldwide. Many even imagine the opera singer: when I say that I like opera, people always ask the same singers. Pavarotti, Domingo, Carreras, Callas, Caballé and Bocelli are some of them.
This "La Boheme", recorded by Bocelli, Fritolli and Regency Zubim Mehta, is an affront to Puccini. I remember that almost all the great singers of the last century has sang and recorded "La Boheme", then we have to level up.
Starting with Mehta conducting, strange times and inaccurate disfiguring work.
Barbara Fritoli is below average, his voice is bulky, too big for the innocent character. Listen to Callas, Freni and Tebaldi or learn how to control the vocal material!
Bocelli is unfortunate, his voice is small, dull. His technique is rudimentary, does not understand "La Boheme" does not express the feeling of persongem and neither must know who is Puccini. His tone is opaque, good for romantic melodies and bad for opera.
On a recent visit to Brazil the tenor did what it knew, filled a park in São Paulo, sang excerpts from operas and folk songs. Ovation by the audience, who cried excited, thinking there an opera singer. Microphones and amplificadres deceive.
Referring to see Bocelli discography many CDs that give children to mothers at Christmas, they love this romanticism. Bocelli continue writing and singing so complete opera is not your beach.
Friends: shelf them, this CD deserves to be in the catacombs of Rome.

Description of Puccini - La Bohème2 CD set in a slipcover with a thick booklet. Zubin Mehta The either-love-him-or-hate-him tenor sensation Andrea Bocelli fulfills his lifelong dream of recording Puccini's rapturous La Bohème, thereby affording fans (who may have previously shunned opera) access to this magical art form. A fragile vulnerability graces Bocelli's Rodolfo. His tenor's tearful tenderness always seems one step away from breaking, but it never does; he always delivers. Instead of opening his throat and letting the voice ride the wave of the breath, Bocelli unabashedly throws his voice towards the high notes. And it works! The sound is light, nasal, and effortlessly produced, and the money notes at his tenor's top expand as vividly as a hot-air balloon. Like a pop singer, Bocelli leans on the middle voice. What he lacks in phrasing, he makes up for through his commitment to passion. Conductor Zubin Mehta's sensitive orchestra teases, expands, frolics, and enriches, frequently upstaging the singers with his rich orchestral emotion. Barbara Frittoli is a vocal battleship, bringing an unpleasantly thick and wobbly soprano to the role of the frail Mimì and frequently submerging Bocelli under steely vocal heft. Her Mimì is not the maker of delicate flowers, but the person who stomps on them when they've accidentally fallen to the floor. Bocelli is not the greatest Rodolfo on record. But if this recording creates a new generation of Puccini lovers, it may be his greatest musical contribution. --Barbara Eisner Bayer
