Music Review: NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS

This is one of the most wonderful jazz albums I own. Simply because all of the songs are called "Christmas songs" should not prevent you from buying it today.Marian McPartland's N.P.R. show "Piano Jazz" is a fixture in my home. She has introduced me to some of the finest new jazz artists and re-introduced me to some old jazz friends. On this CD, you can hear her playing "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" and several others including a terrific duet with Brad Mehldau ("O Tannenbaum"). Her friends range from trumpeter Jon Faddis to pianist Bob James, from trombonist J.J. Johnson to the redoubtable George Shearing playing his special arrangement of "Away in a Manger."
This album is a jazz treasure and a Christmas treasure, too. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
