Music Review: What a lovely unknown opera!

I'm always on the look-out for unusual operatic pieces. And I'm always extremely thrilled to find an accessible opera by a female composer. This definitely fits the bill. Very beautiful music, with a completely American subject. The performances are lovely, and I definitely recommend this opera.
For another operatic work by a female composer, I'd like to also recommend "Cendrillon" by Pauline Viardot. My opera company, the Lyric Opera of Los Angeles, specializes in performing lesser-known operatic works and we had the privilege of performing "Cendrillon" in the Spring of 2004. It's perfect, charming French operetta. Highly recommended and well in line with "Cabildo".
