Music Reviews of Tales of Mystery & ImaginationMusic Review: Horrific Masterpiece. Rating: 5 Stars
I had never listened to an Alan Parsons record - so I will be the first to admit that I cannot make grandiose statements about his work. However, I found the record at a junk store for a dollar, and placed it on my turntable when I got home. I only bought it because I am a big Poe fan, and thought a musical interpretation would be amusing. From the opening notes of "Fall of the House of Usher" I admit I was absolutely spellbound. The album: hypnotic, emotional and lush. For the time it was made, the sounds were so incredibly innovative. I found huge inspiration in writing my own music after listening to this album over and over! It is both tearfully sad, and delicately sinister. I was moved emotionally as I sat through it. Absolutely gorgeous album - I kid you not.
Music Review: Alan Parsons Project... Brilliant locking Poe with music. Rating: 5 Stars
Thinking back.. early 70's music was clashing about till Alan Parsons, Pink Floyd, and a few other very talented artist opened the doors to our minds with the key of enlightenment music. We were dazed and confused at the light as our ears saw majic. To tell the truth I feel very unique to have been part of the early 70's F.M. to mid 80's. I not only began to think but to look within myself when I listened to Alan Parsons which flowed me into the river of other artist's musical waves. I highly advise all Pink Fans "TO START HERE AND GO UP THE LADDER"....Alan has worked on many projects..no pun intended and though I do not have all his work, the sounds of his music revive my brain when cob webs set in. Just what I need to make me feel better!

Music Review: They should have left it alone Rating: 4 Stars
I love this album. I'm one of the relative few who bought it when it first came out in 1976. But they really shouldn't have messed with it when they decided to release a remastered version. Yes, I love the Orson Welles narration that they added, but the new guitar parts really annoy me. For anyone who listened endlessly to the original LP, the new guitar parts sound very 80's and stand out in a bad way. I wish people would learn to leave well enough alone. Other than the cheesy guitar parts (and the final, totally boring, song), it's a classic album. It's too bad APP went commercial on their next LP, but it happens to the best of them.
