Music Review: The best of Al Green

This is a fantastic album without a single weak track. Al Green has such amazing control of the range and dynamics of his voice, and is well complemented by Willie Mitchell's arrangements. Admittedly the lyrics are fairly straightforward tales of love and heartache, but Al Green draws the emotion out of every word in his idiosyncratic style. If you are interested in Al Green, don't waste your time with best-of compilations; just go straight to this album, "Call me", and then "Let's stay together".
Some reviewers have commented negatively about the remastering on this reissue. I haven't heard earlier reissues, but I agree the highs are sometimes a little muffled and the stereo mix seems slightly clumsy in places. There is room for improvement, but no serious problems.
