Music Review: Brilliant Marco

I am a sucker for the singing of the wonderful Marco Beasley. His musicianship, the beauty and clarity of his voice and the obvious intelligence at work in the interpretations are evident in every CD of his I have heard, but none more so than this superb offering. Beasley is no Pavarotti - this is a very different sort of tenor, eminently suited to the lighter balladic expressive style of renaissance music, in particular. I have some reservations about his singing in some of the standard heavyweight baroque repertoire where I find the lightness in the voice not always convincing, but in the sort of early 17th century Italian repertoire on this CD, Beasley is without peer. Accordone are equally at home with this material and the result is remarkably harmonious in its entirety. This is a CD I keep returning to for the sheer light-hearted pleasure of the listening experience.
