Music Review: One of their worst but it's not bad

While many longtime fans would consider Fly on The Wall their worst AC/DC release, it's still not a bad album. When a band has had a long career, they're bound to have one or more mediocre releases in their catalog (in hard rock alone, you have Kiss, Aerosmith, Scorpions, Rush, etc). After the raw sound of their previous release, the excellent Flick of the Switch, the band went with a cleaner production this time out and it doesn't work as well. As for the songs, there are some mediocre ones but there are also a few winners. The tracks "Shake Your Foundations" and "Sink The Pink" boast both memorable riffs and choruses and would later be released on their compilation, Who Made Who. Malcolm Young can still write a killer riff as illustrated on the strong tracks "Playing With Girls" and "Hell or High Water." Other solid tunes include the spirited title track and the funky "Danger." The remaining tracks like "First Blood", "Back in Business", and "Send for the Man" don't really catch fire. All told, while this is certainly one of their "worst" albums, a lot of hard rock bands wouldn't mind having an album as good as Fly on the Wall.
