Music Review: Noisy, poor playing, god-awful rhythm and poor sound quality

I have heard alot about the fanatastic, psychodelic 13th Floor Elevators. The first album I heard was Bull of The Woods, which was their fourth studio album. Songs weren't that good, the music was flat and the sound quality was poor. It sounded very dated, even by 1968 standards. This live album is even worse. The guitar playing is atrocious in spots. There is this god-awful rhythm instrument (I think it is the famous "jug"). The sound quality is worse than a bootleg. The audience applause is cranked up above the level of the music between tracks and at the end of some songs. Four of the songs are very poor and needless covers of old classics (from Buddy Holly, Bo Diddley, etc.)There are two songs (She Lives In a Time of Her Own and You're Gonna Miss Me) that do show alot of promise. These make me want to explore the earlier albums where these songs originated. Are the studio versions better? Are there other songs that are this strong? Do any of the albums have decent sound quality?
